Christmas and sustainable gifts

With the holiday season upon us, I would like to take a moment to reflect on the meaning of Christmas. For me, Christmas is about connection, love and being with loved ones. We all notice that unfortunately consumer culture sometimes takes over and we get carried away by the pressure to buy as many gifts as possible. But let's think together to make a conscious choice and consider sustainable gifts that fit the true meaning of Christmas.

I don't want to judge anyone, but I think we need to become aware of the impact of our consumption on the environment. That's why I'm giving fewer gifts this year, and when I give gifts they are sustainable gifts as much as possible. Not only are they better for the environment, but they also contribute to a more conscious lifestyle and a more sustainable future. Consider gifts made from recycled materials, fair trade products, or gifts that help the recipient live more sustainably, such as a reusable water bottle or a set of beeswax cloths to reduce food waste. My favorite gifts to give and receive are making memories together. Taking a fun cooking workshop or doing something you've both never done before.
Celebrating Christmas together
But I understand that we all love to give and receive gifts during the holidays. But let's take a moment to consider the impact of our consumer society on the environment. Producing, packaging and transporting goods creates significant greenhouse gas emissions and contributes to the depletion of natural resources. In addition, overconsumption leads to waste problems and a growing mountain of unnecessary stuff. By consciously choosing sustainable gifts, we reduce our carbon footprint and contribute to a cleaner and healthier planet for future generations.

And let's not forget what Christmas is really about: connection and love. It's about being with loved ones, sharing warmth and affection, and showing appreciation for one another. Instead of focusing on material gifts, we can choose to spend time and attention on each other. Let's cook together, play games, take a walk in nature or share stories and memories. These are the moments we remember and truly enjoy.

Christmas is a time of connection and love and that is what it is really all about.

Happy Holidays.

Love & Peace,
Babs Wille
